Generally people start to act different this time of the year, maybe not in a bad way, but certainly not how they have acted for the last 11 months. Why is that?

The attitude that many start to have and show; should our attitude not be this way everyday of the year? How many folks only go to "church" this time of the year? Or how many only do things for others this time of the year?

I am also not sure how we honor Jesus by giving each other gifts (and spend great amounts of money in doing so), if you want to honor Jesus with physical things, take all that money and put it in the collection plate.

Vain worship is vain worship after all isn't it?

My daughters birthday is Dec 3rd. But, the opportunity to celebrate her birthday on that date was not feasible. Therefore, we decided to celebrate it 2 weeks earlier. Although, it was not the date she was born...do you not think that she was the reason we celebrated?
Although Christmas is buried in paganism, it has emersed in honor of the Messiah. And we should praise God for that.
I used to think the same way you do...but after careful study and observation...I think we should think God that man, in all his ignorance, has decided to observe a day...any day (Rom 14:5-6,Col 3:17)... to honor the Messiah.
Would you still rather have it remain under the influence of paganism? We could even name our own idol to honor: "Beelzebul is the Reason for the Season".
I don't believe in lying (I would declare that nobody knows when Jesus was born), but I also don't believe in belittling someone for holding Dec 25 in honor of our Lord. Even though people really don't know when He was born...they are honoring Him. Just stand back, smile and be thankful they are not honoring Beelzebul.
