Dearest Bryan,
Thank-you for sharing this simple and honest approach to this vision. I am a big fan of letting scripture interpret itself and I think when we have to twist and explain and take off days for a different calendar and add new characters as you so aptly pointed out it just gets silly. There are so many people out there tired of all our "Christian" arguing and mud slinging. Daniel's prophesies where so obviously given to encourage and give comfort to the faithful Jews who were going to go through many hard times as a people before they would ever see the promised Messiah.  I am interested now in hearing some of your views about Revelation which is another book that in my opinion, is ruthlessly abused. Thank-you again and May God Bless you always!

Wow! Another voice of reason 'crying in the wilderness'! Thank you for taking the time to provide this simple, accurate explanation of these verses. Before I was 'indoctrinated' later in my walk, I saw this. I too suffered at the hands of 'fools' (I mean this in love...) who couldn't let go of their Schofield (sp?) notes. I am always amazed and hurt by those who are so dogmatic about ascribing to Antichrist something that could only be accomplished by JESUS CHRIST.

The debate over the timing for me borders on silliness sometimes as well. I count it backwards from the crucifixtion of Jesus (the middle of the 70th week). Why does the significance of Christs 3.5 year ministry escape so many people? Why does the significance of the renting of the veil escape so many people? Ultimately, why does the significance of JESUS CHRIST escape so many people? We have relagated the King of Kings to a role in history subserviant to the Antichrist. This is reprehensible to me.

If there is a gap in the work of Christ, it is between the first 3.5 years of ministry and the second 3.5 years which will preceed his earthly, bodily second coming.

Thanks again...great job!

Brent, I'm totally on board with your reading of the text, as well as your reading of the olivet discourse (at least what I gather from this post).

This is certainly the natural reading of the text, and I find it untenable to start inserting gaps of indeterminate length here. It seems to me that to do so is to read into the text a certain systematic doctrine, instead of reading out of the text.

Ben,
You miss the subject. It isn't the "prince who is the come." The text says, "the people of the prince who is to come." "He" cannot refer back to this because the angel is not talking about the prince, but the people of the prince. It should say "they" if the people of the prince is in view. The last subject that "he" can refer to is the Messiah.

Brent, I sincerely think your interpretation isn't the "simplest". The plain reading would simply indicate the "he" be the "prince who is to come", for example.

I'm with you on this one, Brent - the plain reading is by far the most preferable.
