Time To Unpack “Unpacking”
Why is nearly every radio evangelist using the word “unpacked?” Who started this trend?
“I am going to unpack this verse.”
“Let me unpack this word.”
Can we just explain the text? Can’t we just offer more details? Can we just say what this verse means? Can we stop unpacking?
It is time to retire “unpack” just like we need to retire the phrase, “thrown under the bus.”
“Unpacking” is not original. It is a tired, worn out slang that suggests the superiority of the evangelist over the congregation.

I can’t say I have heard much of that, but I’ll keep an ear open for it now. I guess they feel the scriptures have some type of compression ratio or something? WinZip or 7-Zip has always worked great for me :-)

Like Joe, I too can’t say that I’ve heard this phrase used, but it doesn’t surprise me that there are those who would. Folks are always looking for ways to “re-fresh” the word of God; you know, something new. That’s why we have all these liberal bible translations out there now catering to the reader’s whims and fantasies . . . rather than the actual Words of God. It’s a travesty!
